It is personally found that the demise of trolleybus is attributed by many causes, I'd like to discuss one of them here:
-Urban redevelopment projects particularly revamp or redesign of the urban road network. For example, street/road widening,
acquisitions and replacements of bridges, etc. Trolley overhead wires were not restored after it's been removed to give way to
the projects. Chinese cities have developed rapidly over the past two decades, and there have been lots of civil and urban
developement projects going on!
-The twin overhead wires carries high costs and any alteration on the routes would mean installing new wires and bringing down
the old ones, which again cost lots of money. As such, it has become a trend that the number of trolleybus routes only decreases but never increases. As the vicious cycle goes on, it would be decided that all trolleybuses to be taken over by diesel buses when
it has reached a point whereby barely a couple of trolleybus lines are left, and the overhead maintanence costs can no longer be
justified by the small fleet of trolleybuses still in operation.
